Hot Topic Phantomirage! Girls2 Tearful Story of Coming to Tokyo [English Translation]
"In 'Koisuru Kamo' (Maybe Falling in Love) there are a lot of phrases that mention ducks (kamo). Even in the choreography, there are a lot of dance images that recreate ducks and I think it's really catchy. Before we even debuted, I kept practicing this song and I remember getting encouragement from it when I felt anxious. The song is also like a cheer song!" - Misaki Tsuruya, 16.
On October 30, Girls2 will release mini-album 'Koisuru Kamo'. It's a fun and catchy title song that sings about the feelings of falling in love, the song is used as "Secret x Heroine Phantomirage" opening theme which is part of the Girls x Heroine series which is popular amongst children.
"During the release event of 'Koisuru Kamo', I teach the dance and everybody copies along. It makes me so happy seeing everyone having fun when dancing. Even my little sisters are addicted so they copy along and dance together when the song plays. You can enjoy 'Koisuru Kamo' even with your family!" - Youka Ogawa, 15.
EXILE who wish to pursue dreams, created EXPG STUDIO in 2003 a dance, vocal and acting school for children who wanted a place that will make their dreams come true. Girls2 are from the same studio, and were a part of a selection of elite students, with the youngest being in 1st year middle school and the eldest in 1st year high school. With an average age of 14, their singing and dancing is the best of the best! 'Koisuru Kamo' is a song even adults can enjoy.
"I'd love for adults to hear it too. Little children get really excited about it but I want it to be an MV where adults say "So cute!". I want everyone to enjoy it!" - Kurea Masuda, 16.
Girls2 is composed of members not only from "Secret x Heroine Phantomirage!" but also from "Magical x Heroine MagimajoPures!" and "Idol x Warrior Miracle Tunes!" too.
Some of the girls appear on the show "OhaSuta" (TV Tokyo series) as Oha Girls. The fanbase spreads amongst parents and children, so it is natural that 3,000 people are in attendance for events. Furthermore, for even just one event, the number of reserved CDs may exceed 2,000.
And their debut song 'Daijoubu' (It's Alright) that was released in June, ranked 3rd in the Weekly Oricon Charts. Which already attracted many fans.
"I get letters from fans. A child will work hard to write one or the mother writes one instead. When I see things like that, I think 'There are a lot of people who support me' and it makes me feel like I want to do my best." - Momoka Sumitani, 14.
Girls2 have many members who formerly lived in other districts. The only member from Tokyo is Yuzuha Oda (14) and the others are from other prefectures. Each seems to have their own "Traveling to Tokyo story".
"When I moved to Tokyo, I was still in 6th grade Elementary school. The truth is, I really wanted to graduate in Hyogo. But after all, my dream was to come to Tokyo and make a debut as an artist so I moved to Tokyo, where I would be a little closer. I was so happy when we had a party when we moved." - Minami Hishida, 12.
"Last time, I appeared at an event in my school.* Since moving to Tokyo, I never went back to my school. But when I entered the waiting room, there was a message on the whiteboard that said "Welcome back Kira". I cried." - Kira Yamaguchi, 15.
Since childhood, Girls2 have dreamed of debuting and had taken many tough lessons. After debut, they have been very busy.
"I once thought 'I want to be an ordinary girl...'. I was lost but after listening to people around me, I began to think "if you quit, you'll regret it". But now, I'm glad I worked hard." - Oda
The members all say "I love Pretty Cure", so it was joy for them to be a 'fighting girl' in the Girls x Heroine series. Although they are inexperienced actors, they're growing day by day.
"When I went to EXPG, I was mainly singing and dancing. But when it was decided I would join the drama, I had to be coached in acting too. It was my first time acting, and I never thought I'd ever do it before. But now I have more skills (weapons), so I think it's a good experience." - Ran Ishii, 15.
Girls2 who shine now. It seems they are even considering worldwide activities for the future.
"I want more people to know about Girls2, I want to do an arena tour. There are members who are studying English and Chinese, so I hope we can fly around the world and hold activities in other countries!" - Tsuruya
