Girls2 Line Distribution Explained
"Why are so and so not singing?"
"Girls2 are a 9 member group so why are so and so not singing?"
"How come those 5 are the only one singing?"
"Where is so and so?"
"Why does so and so have more lines?"
These questions have come in all different forms on our Youtube account and I will be truthful. They are very annoying. When you keep asking, we'll keep explaining but for some reason, more and more people ask so we'll clarify and next time somebody asks, just know this is what they'll be linked to so if you are one of those people, hello and welcome to an explanation.
Yes, first and foremost, Girls2 are indeed a 9 member group. They debuted on June 26 2019 with 8 members along with their debut single "Daijoubu".
The title track Daijoubu itself only had 3 singers, Yuzuha, Misaki and Youka. However, that began the questions of "there are other members, why are they not singing?"
Truthfully, when this song first came out, I too had those very same questions but after their 2nd release, it became clearer to me.
"Daijoubu" was also used as the opening theme for "Phantomirage" with the 3 mirage2 members singing it. Now, yes, I said three. Do you understand why only three singers may be singing it now?
It is so they could easily distribute the lines to the mirage2 members.
Minami was given Yuzuha's lines, Kira was given Misaki's lines and Toa was given Youka's lines.
The next tracks, "Ring Ring" and "Skip" are songs solely performed by the 5 OhaGirl members.
Why you may ask? This is because mirage2 were still filming Phantomirage and promoting themselves as mirage2. Being so young, they weren't allowed to be overworked. They adjusted the song in order for the 8 members to be performing but also for 5 members which is why the mirage2 members seemed like back up dancers.
During "Daijoubu" promotion, the mirage2 members were not present due to other activities so the 5 OhaGirls made it their job to promote without the other three.
They also had "Daijoubu mirage2 version" which of course allowed the 3 mirage2 members to participate in the single.
Now! They have released their first mini-album "Koisuru Kamo" as well as gaining a new member "Ran Ishii".
This was then released in October 30. If we follow the pattern of the previous two seasons then we will know that the mirage2 members, will have finished filming by now. This is now enabling them to squeeze in another activity in it's place which is Koisuru Kamo promotions.
As we can see, the 9 members were all present for the live events.
The mini album has 5 tracks. Koisuru Kamo, being the main title track, had all 9 members receive a line. Though not solo, they still recorded.
The next track is "Give Me Love". Being the second track, the 5 OhaGirls were given the solo lines.
3rd track is "Happy Merry Christmas" which had 5 members singing as well. The members singing were Ran, Kira, Misaki, Yuzuha and Kurea. 2 mirage members and 3 OhaGirl members.
The following track is "Let's go to School" which included the youngest of the groups OhaGirl and mirage2. These members were Youka, Yuzuha and Momoka who are the youngest from the OhaGirls and Toa and Minami who are the two youngest from mirage2.
The final track "Koisuru Kamo mirage2 version" had the 4 mirage2 members singing.
Let's look at that carefully.
1st track, all members.
2nd track, had OhaGirls singing.
3rd track, had 2 members from mirage2 and 3 from OhaGirl.
4th track, had DIFFERENT members from the previous track with 2 mirage2 members and 3 OhaGirls (Youka singing in both).
5th track, mirage2 singing.
One mustn't only look at one song and decide that it is "annoying" or "unfair". Looking at the whole album or single as a whole, you realise, they divided the songs well. Everyone has sang in every song, just not solo lines. Everyone will always sing in the chorus.
From now on, with Phantomirage coming to a close, you will see more mirage2 members. After the release of their final album, they too, like OhaGirls, they will be in more events and live performances. It is fair distribution if you look at it from an overall perspective. So next time you wonder, do your research first.
